Sioux Falls golfers are taking advantage of the warm winter weather by heading out to the links over the holidays.
At least four area courses say they will be open until New Year’s Eve, and possibly longer if the weather holds.
Elmwood
Golf Course said more than 270 golfers took advantage of the open
course Monday as the temperature reached 54. The course closed in early
December but opened again last week.
At Bakker Crossing, head golf pro Jason Sudenga said more than 40 golfers played the course.
“This
is kind of a new thing for us,” he said. “We haven't really experienced
this before. In January, we (usually) shut down and aren't around. But
if the snow stays off the ground and the weather stays nice, we will be
here.”
Willow Run also plans on being open all week.
“On
Christmas the clubhouse was closed, but people were out here golfing
all day for free,” Willow Run PGA professional Larry Gunia said. “We’ll
do the same thing on New Year’s. We had more than 100 players come
through (Monday).”
Hidden Valley Golf Course in Brandon is also open.
City courses Kuehn Park and Prairie Green are closed for the season, as is Brandon Golf Course.
